how-tos: cut a pineapple

hint hint...pineapples are playing a big role in our summer lookbook, so we wanted to make sure this fresh prop was in good hands after the shoot. our little local maui resident kelly shows us how to cut a pineapple plain & simple!
no fancy fruit boats here.
yup, that's him!
you'll need: a fresh pineapple, cutting board, sharp kitchen knife
cut that top (or "crown") off! but don't throw it away...if you've got a green thumb, you can grow your own pineapples.
cut the bottom off so the pineapple is flat on both ends. that's the trick for any other large round fruits--cantaloupes, watermelons, etc. that way, there's no fruit running wild.
slice off the sides all the way around. if you want to do anything fancy, this is where you'd leave the skin on and try your hand at making a pineapple boat...
yes!! down to the flesh :) now cut it right down the center so you have two halves
you can either cut it in half wedges (very hotel brunch-like)...
long wedges (perfect for grilling--just top it off with some salt!)
...or bite-size for sharing like we did!
